INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE CANADA
Are you looking for an opportunity to work and travel in Canada? International Experience Canada (IEC) might be the perfect program for you.
IEC provides young individuals from over 30 partner countries with the chance to travel and work in Canada. This program is part of Canada’s Youth Mobility Agreements and allows participants to gain valuable work experience while exploring the country.
IEC comprises three categories: Working Holiday, Young Professionals, and International Co-op (Internship).
Each category caters to different needs, such as those looking to fund their travels with temporary work, gain professional work experience, or complete a work placement related to their field of study.
IEC - YOUR GATEWAY TO CANADA
The IEC program allows young individuals from participating countries to work in Canada without needing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This makes the process more accessible and faster for those seeking international work experience.
Participants receive salaries and benefits that meet federal and provincial standards. The program also supports Canada’s commitment to youth mobility and cultural exchange, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between Canada and its partner countries.
Eligibility criteria: Participants must
- Be a citizen of one of the 30+ participating countries.
- Meet age requirements (between 18 and 35).
- Have a valid passport for the duration of their stay in Canada.
- Have sufficient funds to cover expenses.

IEC PERMIT - Key Aspects
The validity of an IEC permit varies depending on the category and the participant’s country of origin. Generally, permits are issued for 12 to 24 months, allowing ample time to work and travel in Canada.
Participants can only receive one IEC permit per category. However, some countries have bilateral agreements allowing individuals to participate in multiple categories over different trips.
Key Points:
- Working Holiday permits allow for temporary work to fund travel.
- Young Professionals permits allow applicants to gain professional work experience.
- International Co-op permits support work placements related to the field of study.
