HOW TO OBTAIN A WORK PERMIT
The process for obtaining a work permit in Canada depends on the permit you are applying for.
For most closed work permits, applicants need an official job offer from a qualified Canadian employer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This assessment ensures that hiring a foreign worker won’t negatively impact the Canadian workforce. Even those exempted from the LMIA or work permit requirements must prepare specific documentation to ensure entry into Canada.
There are two main pathways for obtaining a Canadian work permit.
Closed (restricted) work permits are tied to specific employers. In this type of permit, the foreign worker must remain with the same employer at the same location unless they change their permit. On the other hand, open work permits allow for more flexibility, enabling the holder to work for any employer across Canada.
Understanding and applying for a work permit process in Canada can be complex
but understanding these pathways and requirements is crucial for a successful application.
We can help you with the right preparation and documentation. It can go a long way in securing your work permit and beginning a new life in Canada.

- Have a social insurance number (SIN)
You can work up to 20 hours per week off-campus during regular school sessions and full-time during official breaks.
