FAMILY VISA
Family reunification has been a priority of Canada’s immigration policy. Canada has been welcoming immigrants for many decades now. The aim is to bolster the country’s economy, unite families, and, most importantly, address humanitarian needs. The family class is the second-largest category of newcomers under Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) oversees this system. It establishes program criteria, processes family sponsorship applications, and issues permanent and temporary resident visas.
Canada offers several immigration programs for Canadians to sponsor their family members. Permanent residents can sponsor relatives who are financially dependent on them. If you are looking to reunite with your family in Canada, we can help you navigate the family visa application process and take the first step toward starting a new life together.

FAMILY SPONSORSHIP
Family sponsorship is designed for Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to reunite with close family members by bringing them to Canada for permanent residency. This process involves meeting financial requirements to support the sponsored individuals. The family sponsorship program is a way of demonstrating commitment to family unity and ensuring their well-being.
The key features of family sponsorship
- Simplifies permanent residency for immediate family members.
- Strengthens family unity by reuniting loved ones in Canada.
- The application process is streamlined for eligible Canadian residents.
SUPER VISA
The Super Visa permits parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to visit Canada for extended periods. This multi-entry visa permits stays of up to two years per visit, making it ideal for long-term family visits. To be eligible, the applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial support and medical insurance.
Key features of the Super Visa process:
- Permits parents and grandparents to live in Canada for up to two years per visit.
- Valid for up to 10 years, enabling multiple visits.
- Extended duration reduces the need for frequent visa renewals.
SPOUSAL SPONSORSHIP
Spousal sponsorship in Canada allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to bring their spouse or common-law partner to Canada for permanent residency. This program facilitates family reunification, enabling couples to live together in Canada. Applicants must prove that the relationship with the sponsored individuals is genuine and also meet financial requirements.
Key features of Spousal Sponsorship
- Grants the spouse or partner permanent residency upon approval.
- Spousal sponsorship does not require a job offer or labor market assessment.
- The processing of family reunification is generally faster than that of other immigration routes.

HOW TO OBTAIN A WORK PERMIT
The process for obtaining a work permit in Canada depends on the permit you are applying for.
For most closed work permits, applicants need an official job offer from a qualified Canadian employer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This assessment ensures that hiring a foreign worker won’t negatively impact the Canadian workforce. Even those exempted from the LMIA or work permit requirements must prepare specific documentation to ensure entry into Canada.
There are two main pathways for obtaining a Canadian work permit.
Closed (restricted) work permits are tied to specific employers. In this type of permit, the foreign worker must remain with the same employer at the same location unless they change their permit. On the other hand, open work permits allow for more flexibility, enabling the holder to work for any employer across Canada.
Understanding and applying for a work permit process in Canada can be complex
but understanding these pathways and requirements is crucial for a successful application.
We can help you with the right preparation and documentation. It can go a long way in securing your work permit and beginning a new life in Canada.
